The happiest campers

The Bobsey Twins Camping Out.

by Laura Lee Hope, Grosset & Dunlap, 1955.

The second of my collection. Found just a few minutes after Peter Lawson Camper on that fateful day. Imagining the bone-crushing 1950s niceness of a Bobsey Twins story with a hidden agenda pleased me immensely. Making fun of it doesn’t even begin to make up for the jaw-dropping casual racism to be found inside, of course, but one does what one can.

This copy is not the first edition (darn), and the illustrator is not credited.
