Curiously, although we know the illustrator (Jack Crowe), no author has stepped forward to take responsibility for this exotic juvenile pot-boiler.  (Raphael Tuck — fine art publishers to Their Majesties the King and Queen and to Her Majesty Queen Mary — Toronto, circa 1920s)

I don’t know why it makes me giggle like an idiot every time I look at it. It shouldn’t be in the least amusing. But it is.
